48K COLOUR

  Tetris_ZX_v1.1.0_48K_Colour.z80
Colour graphics and beeper sound. Fixed colour display.

  Tetris_ZX_v1.1.0_48K_Mono.tap
  Tetris_ZX_v1.1.0_48K_Mono.z80

128K AY - COLOUR AND MONO IN ONE GAME
  Tetris_ZX_v1.1.0_128K_AY.tap
  Tetris_ZX_v1.1.0_128K_AY.z80
Starts in colour, with AY music and effects. Press CAPS SHIFT and
SYMBOL SHIFT together to switch to monochrome or back to colour.
Release both keys before switching again. This works after loading,
including during play and on menus. An in-game reset keeps the chosen
display mode; reloading starts in colour again.

The 48K files are separate editions; the shift-key toggle is 128K only.
In two-player play both players share the same display mode and music.

LOADING
-------
Open the matching .z80 snapshot for instant loading in a compatible
emulator such as Spectaculator. Select the correct 48K or 128K machine.

For a .tap tape image, attach the matching tape, use Tape Loader or
enter LOAD "", then start the tape. On a real Spectrum, feed compatible
playback equipment into the EAR socket and load in the usual way.

In all three editions, press K at the keyboard-controls
screen to redefine both players' letter keys. Each key must be unique.
Enter cancels setup and restores defaults. Otherwise, Enter continues,
or wait to use the defaults. Your chosen keys survive an in-game reset
but return to defaults when you reload.

HOW TO PLAY
-----------
Move and rotate each falling piece to fill complete horizontal rows.
Full rows vanish. Do not let the pile reach the top of the well. Hold
Down to make a piece fall faster. NEXT shows the coming piece; Select
hides or shows the preview.

GAME MODES
----------
GAME A: an open-ended score challenge. Choose your starting level and
build your score as the falling speed increases. Clearing several rows
together earns more than clearing them separately.

GAME B: choose a level and starting height, then clear 25 lines. Higher
starting heights leave less room to manoeuvre; higher levels fall faster.

2 PLAYER: both boards share one screen. Clear two, three or four rows
together to send one, two or four rows to your opponent. Win a round
by clearing 30 lines or forcing your rival to the top. The first player
to win five rounds wins the match.

CONTROLS
--------
Default keyboard controls (all three editions):

                         Player 1 Player 2
  Left / Right A / D J / L
  Down / Up S / W K / I
  Rotate / confirm Q U
  Reverse rotate / back E O
  Start R or Enter P
  Select (NEXT display) F M

Use the Sinclair 1 joystick port for Player 1 or Sinclair 2 for Player 2.
A Kempston joystick, when present, also controls Player 1. Move with
the joystick and use fire to rotate or confirm. Start, Select and
reverse rotate remain on the keyboard.

Player 1 Start pauses or resumes the game. SPACE returns to the title.
To reset, hold a player's Start and Select for three seconds: R+F
(or Enter+F) for Player 1, P+M for Player 2 with the default keys.
With redefined keys, use that player's new Start and Select keys.

128K display toggle: CAPS SHIFT + SYMBOL SHIFT together. Use the two
shift keys on their own, then release them. Existing letter controls,
joystick controls and cheat chords keep their usual functions.

SOUND
-----
The 128K AY edition has music and sound effects, with one shared tune
in two-player play. Danger music responds to either player's pile.
The 48K editions use the Spectrum beeper, with effects during gameplay
and music for menus and game sequences.

EXTRA PLAY
----------
For heart mode, hold Down and press Start at the title selection.
In one-player play, SYMBOL SHIFT + Z raises the Game A level;
SYMBOL SHIFT + X or C adds or removes a Game B line;
SYMBOL SHIFT + V finishes the game. Cheats do not work in two-player play.

TIPS
----
* Watch NEXT and leave room for the shape that is coming.
* Keep a low, fairly even surface so different shapes have room to fit.
* Avoid buried holes: covering a gap makes it much harder to reach.
* Leave a clear channel for the long piece to clear four rows together.
Take smaller clears when the pile gets high; survival comes first.
* In Game B, concentrate on the line target rather than the score.
* In two-player play, allow room for incoming rows before setting up
a big clear. An attack can arrive while you are working on your own pile.

HIGH SCORES
-----------
A qualifying score lets you enter your name. High scores last for the
current session; reloading starts fresh.
